Andrew Carnell Fatal Death – Investigators suspect that Kyler shot Washington during the altercation, and subsequently inflicted a gunshot wound upon himself.
The Prince George’s County community is in grief following the tragic loss of a beloved local basketball talent in a shooting incident early Saturday morning in the Temple Hills neighborhood.
Authorities have named the suspect as 36-year-old Estep Kyler Jr. from Largo.
He faces charges for the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Andrew Carnell from Washington, D.C., who was also a prominent figure in the local basketball scene.
Early in the morning on Saturday, February 10th, at 4:05 a.m., law enforcement responded to a reported shooting incident on Iverson Street.
During their search of the area, officers discovered Kyler with a gunshot injury.
Kyler informed officers that he had engaged in a confrontation with his friend, Andrew Washington, while they were seated in a vehicle in a parking lot within the 2400 block of Iverson Street.
Upon further investigation, officers found Washington inside the car, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Tragically, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Initially, investigators suspect that Kyler shot Washington during the altercation, and subsequently inflicted a gunshot wound upon himself.
Authorities report that Kyler is currently under police custody at a local hospital, where he is receiving treatment for injuries that are deemed non-life-threatening.
He faces charges of first and second-degree murder, along with other associated offenses. Upon discharge from the hospital, he will be transferred to the Department of Corrections.
