Annetta Black Death: Co-founder & Curator of Odd Salon has passed away

Annetta Black death was reported as: The news that Annetta, one of my closest childhood friends, had passed away was delivered to me late last night.

A flood of memories and profound melancholy is washing over me. I am thinking about all of the new experiences we have had, the lengthy phone calls we have had, the late hours we have spent chatting, and the fact that one of us has slept on the floor of the other’s bedroom.

The awkwardness, the hardships, and the wonderful fun that come along with being a teenager were all things that she and I had in common. But beyond our friendship, the phrase that keeps coming to my mind to describe her, even when she was in her early teens, is “passionate curiosity.”

The image that won’t leave me is of her sitting on her bed with her legs crossed, her nose buried in a book about some uncommon subject, and her other hand typically holding a pen in which she is writing or drawing in a notebook.

It makes me so happy that she was able to find a community of people who shared her values and that her legacy will continue to be carried on via Odd Salon. It should come as no surprise that Martin, another one of those unbelievable and extraordinary people, was the one who introduced me to such a remarkable and extraordinary individual.

You, my friend, are someone I will never forget. I really hope that wherever you are, there are shelves stacked high with books for you to devour.
