Boating Accident – In a tragic incident near Sylvania, Georgia, two young men, Elijah Joun “Eli” Brodnex and Demetrius Boyd, lost their lives when their boat overturned in Screven County.
The accident occurred while the two were fishing with another young man who managed to survive the ordeal.
According to deputies, the survivor recounted how their vessel suddenly flipped, leaving Brodnex and Boyd unable to escape the frigid waters. Despite prompt response from rescue teams, both Brodnex and Boyd were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Screven County Sheriff’s Office coordinated efforts with multiple agencies, including EMS, the Fire Department, the Marine Rescue Squadron, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Local scuba divers also joined the search, braving 46-degree waters to recover the victims’ bodies during a five-hour operation.
