Brian Curtis Derby TN Death: Townsend man died in Sterling quarry rock ledge collapse

Brian Curtis Derby TN Death – Brian Curtis Derby, 67, of Townsend, was identified by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office as the man who passed away in a quarry close to Sterling on Thursday.

Derby was working an excavator when a rock ledge collapsed over it, causing emergency personnel to be rushed to the quarry at 17 Stone Crest Way just before eight in the morning. Using camera equipment, the responders inspected the area and found no signs of life. Derby departed this life on Tuesday at 8:39 a.m.

After many hours of trying, the corpse was eventually recovered by the District 8 Technical Rescue Team, which drew on resources from numerous neighboring departments, including Barre, Clinton, Leominster, Fitchburg, Gardner, Holden, Sterling, and West Boylston. Early on Friday morning, the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner removed Derby’s body from the scene.
