Cheat Lake Drowning Investigations: A family in Morgantown, West Virginia, is inconsolable following an unanticipated Sunday loss.
At the Backwaters of Cheat Lake in Morgantown, West Virginia, one person of the Monongalia County neighborhood was reported missing. The incident involving the drowning occurred on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Law enforcement officials claim that the person drowned after an accident happened when they were riding in a boat. Numerous agencies were dispatched to the scene of the event, including the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office and the Morgantown Fire Department.
After the event, two ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Following several hours of searching, law authorities declared that the Backwaters were off-limits to the general public because of the continuing situation.
The investigator has not disclosed the identification of the victim in question.
The last drowning incident in Cheat Lake happened in July 2024, when Martins Ferry, Ohio resident Thomas Burt, 37, was discovered dead in the water on Monday at 2:00 p.m. Around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, a number of search and rescue, fire, and Monongalia County Sheriff units were dispatched to the Ices Ferry Bridge area in which Burts was found.
