Daniel Henning Obituary – The Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Officer Daniel Henning, who passed away on January 15, 2025, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer.

He was 46 years old. Officer Henning’s passing marks the loss of a dedicated public servant, beloved colleague, and cherished family member, who leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of service, honor, and love for his community.

Daniel Henning was born on June 12, 1978, in Abilene, Texas, to his proud parents, James and Patricia Henning. From an early age, Daniel exhibited a strong sense of justice and compassion.

He was always eager to help others, and his deep commitment to serving those in need became evident in his choice to pursue a career in law enforcement. His journey into law enforcement began when he joined the Arlington Police Department in 2000, where he spent several years serving the city of Arlington and gaining valuable experience in the field.

In 2006, Officer Henning made the decision to return to his roots and serve his hometown of Abilene, Texas, by joining the Abilene Police Department. This decision marked the beginning of a long and distinguished career with the department, where he became known for his unwavering dedication, his strong sense of duty, and his genuine love for the people of Abilene.

He quickly earned the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of the community, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents he swore to protect.

Throughout his career, Officer Henning was committed to making a positive impact on the community. He was not only a law enforcement officer but also a mentor, leader, and role model to those around him.

His colleagues spoke highly of his work ethic, his calm demeanor, and his ability to handle even the most challenging situations with professionalism and compassion. Officer Henning’s dedication to his work was a shining example of what it meant to serve with honor and integrity.

Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica Henning, whom he married in 2005, and their two children, Ethan (17) and Sophia (13). Daniel’s family was his pride and joy, and his love for them was immeasurable. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a constant source of support and encouragement to his wife and children.

Daniel’s family will forever carry the memories of his laughter, guidance, and love. He is also survived by his parents, James and Patricia Henning, and his siblings, Aaron Henning and Rachel Henning-Cameron, as well as numerous extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him deeply.

The Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) joins the Abilene Police Department in mourning the loss of Officer Henning, a respected and dedicated law enforcement officer whose service to his community will never be forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to Daniel’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Officer Daniel Henning on January 19, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Abilene (1333 N 3rd St, Abilene, Texas). Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the memorial service following at 11:00 AM. Family, friends, fellow officers, and all those whose lives were touched by Daniel’s service are invited to come together to pay their respects and celebrate his life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Abilene Police Department Foundation or to the TMPA Officers Benevolent Fund, which supports law enforcement families in times of need. Contributions can be made at the service or through the organizations’ respective websites. Officer Daniel Henning’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched. His commitment to service, his courage in the face of adversity, and his deep love for his family and community will never be forgotten.
