The collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. on a rural stretch of Highway 14, approximately five miles north of Beloit.

According to preliminary reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Toyota Tundra driven by 39-year-old Christopher J. Herz of Burr Oak veered across the centerline into oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided head-on with a Ford Escape driven by Travis.

Despite wearing his seatbelt, Travis sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that Herz, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered severe injuries. He was transported by emergency services to a nearby hospital, where his condition remains critical.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, examining factors such as road conditions, driver distraction, and any potential impairment. The area where the collision occurred is known for narrow lanes and limited visibility, which may have contributed to the tragic incident.
