Haley Jarosiewicz Car Accident – The Midland community is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Haley Jarosiewicz, a beloved student at Midland High School, who tragically lost her life in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:42 a.m. on January 23 on East Isabella Road in Homer Township, leaving the entire community in shock and grief.
According to the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation determined that Haley was driving eastbound in a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic on the icy, snow-covered roadway just west of South 5 Mile Road when she lost control of the vehicle.
Her car crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 41-year-old Midland man. Authorities believe that hazardous road conditions, combined with the driving speed, played significant roles in the fatal crash.
Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Haley succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained minor injuries and declined transportation to MyMichigan Medical Center for further medical evaluation.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan State Police Accident Investigation Team, Homer Township Fire Department, Lee Township Fire Department, and MyMichigan EMS. Their efforts ensured a thorough investigation and safe handling of the scene.
Following the tragic accident, Midland Public Schools Superintendent Penny Miller-Nelson and Midland High School Principal Tiela Schurman issued a heartfelt statement to MPS families, expressing their sorrow and extending their deepest condolences to Haley’s family, friends, and the school community.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share that one of our students, Haley Jarosiewicz, passed away today following an automobile accident,” the statement read. “Haley was an 11th-grade student at Midland High School and previously attended Chestnut Hill Elementary and Northeast Middle School. She was a dedicated member of our school community, involved in Cross Country, Track and Field, Chemic Conditioning, Student Council, and was a proud Chemic. Our sincerest condolences go out to Haley’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
The school district has made mental health resources available for students and staff coping with the tragic loss. Counselors and community mental health professionals are on hand to provide support both individually and in groups. Parents and guardians are encouraged to reach out to the school office should their child need additional assistance in processing the devastating news.
As the investigation continues, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to exercise caution when traveling on winter roads and to adjust their speed accordingly to prevent further tragedies.
A candlelight vigil is being planned by friends and classmates to honor Haley’s memory, celebrating her bright spirit and the positive impact she made within the community. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
