A 31-year-old man was killed in downtown Gatineau, Quebec, in December 2020, and four citizens of Ottawa have been charged with first-degree murder. On the evening of December 11, 2020, Ryan Bracken was shot while inside a store on rue Eddy in the Old Hull neighborhood of the city. After being brought to the hospital, Bracken passed away from his wounds.
Four individuals in their 20s were taken into custody by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the province police force of Quebec, on Tuesday in relation to the homicide of Bracken. On Wednesday, the four accused all made videoconference appearances in Gatineau court. The four of them were also accused of plotting to commit murder. They have another court date set for May 25. Two weeks after Bracken’s death, Gatineau police handed over the investigation to the SQ, claiming possible ties to organized crime. SQ Insp. Michel Patenaude stated that the four suspects were all acquainted with Ottawa police, especially in drug-related matters, and had gang affiliations.
