At just 20 years old, Joey’s life was filled with enthusiasm, dedication, and a bright future ahead, leaving a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Joey Young was a second-year student at the New Zealand Broadcasting School (NZBS) at the Ara Institute of Canterbury, where he was pursuing a Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications with a major in radio. Joey’s passion for media and broadcasting shone through his academic journey and his professional aspirations.
A proud alumnus of Christ’s College, Canterbury (2018–2022), Joey displayed leadership and dedication during his formative years, laying a strong foundation for his future endeavors. His years at NZBS were marked by creativity, hard work, and a genuine passion for storytelling through radio, earning him the admiration of peers and faculty alike.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Joey’s professional life reflected his commitment to excellence. He worked as a track marshal at Supakarts, a position he held since August 2022.
Known for his attentiveness, professionalism, and warm demeanor, Joey was a valued member of the Supakarts team. His passion for motorsports and his ability to ensure the safety and enjoyment of others made him a standout in his role.
Joey also brought his enthusiasm for media to his work as a promotions assistant at MediaWorks NZ from March 2023 to May 2024. During his tenure, Joey demonstrated his natural flair for engaging with the public and contributing to creative campaigns, showcasing his potential in the broadcasting field.
The Tragic Accident
