Death; Jordan Blake Ramey, 22, Brevard College football player hospitalized after Jan. 1 shooting

Jordan Blake Ramey Death – On January 1, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m., Brevard College football player Jordan Blake Ramey, 22, was shot in downtown Hickory, North Carolina, near 2nd Street NW and Main Avenue NW.

Ramey, who was not involved in the altercation, was struck by two bullets while walking to an Uber with friends after a New Year’s Eve celebration.

Ramey sustained injuries to his stomach, with one bullet lacerating his liver and spleen before exiting his body. He was initially taken to Frye Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition. His brothers, Regan and Baylee, who also play football for Brevard College, have been by his side during his recovery.

The suspect, 20-year-old Javier Hampton Trevino Jr. of Lenoir, North Carolina, was arrested on January 2, 2025. He faces charges including two counts of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. Trevino is currently held in the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond, with a District Court date scheduled for January 3.

A second suspect, 31-year-old Patsy Elaine Humphries of Lenoir, was arrested on January 2, 2025. She is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. Humphries is also being held without bond, with a court appearance set for January 3.

In response to the incident, a GoFundMe page has been established by Ramey’s teammate, Hadden Schnell, to assist with medical expenses. The page describes Ramey as a dedicated athlete and student, and the funds will aid in his recovery process.
