Deputy Hunter Reedy Marion VA died, Deputy Michael Fedorchuk hurt in Smyth County Sheriff’s Office involved double-officer shooting

Deputy Hunter Reedy Marion VA Death: Deputy Hunter Reedy has been identified by family as the Smyth County Sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty this evening near Marion, VA.

He was a father of three and a dedicated husband to Bettina Quen Reedy. Deputy Hunter Dakota Reedy was from Marion, Virginia. He owned the B.M. Land Management LLC. Deputy Reedy was employed in December 2021.

The deputy injured in the double-officer shooting involved the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office has been identified as Deputy Michael Fedorchuk. He was recognized as the Marion VFW’s annual Officer of the Year in 2023. He remains in critical condition.

According to a local politician, authorities are investigating a gunshot that involved at least two deputies near Marion, Virginia. In a social media post, State Sen. Todd Pillion extended prayers to the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office for what he described as a “tragic double officer-involved shooting.”

A portion of Highway 16 is restricted due to a large police presence near Marion. At 7:35 p.m., the highway was closed at Market Street. Del. Terry Kilgore also took to social media, calling the situation a “tragic officer-involved shooting.” “These actions were senseless and they have no place in any of our communities,” Kilgore stated in a statement.
