The tragic incident that took place at around 10:30 a.m. shocked the neighborhood and left many grieving over the needless deaths. Devontre Taylor, a 35-year-old Wilmington resident, was the victim of a gunshot wound that quickly turned into a major emergency.
Since then, the New Castle County Police Department has focused its investigation on this unfortunate incident, and it has revealed that a 27-year-old suspect named Michael Toombs was taken into custody in relation to the fatal shooting.
The murder’s prelude and the steps law enforcement took to capture the culprit following a violent confrontation at the Harbor House Apartments have been clarified by the inquiry.
How the incident happened
Police were initially called to the location of the incident at the Harbor House Apartments, which are situated in the 100 block of Harbor Drive, just before 10:30 a.m.
Responders acted quickly after hearing reports of gunfire, realizing that the situation was potentially fatal. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered that Devontre Taylor, 35, had been severely shot.
Paramedics arrived quickly and took Taylor to a neighboring hospital in the hopes of stabilizing him and saving his life. Regretfully, not long after they arrived, Taylor was declared dead despite their best attempts.
