Dougal Thorburn Ora Toa Health Doctor and Population Health Lead at Te Awakairangi Health Network has died

Dougal Thorburn Ora Toa Health Doctor Death: The Ora Toa Health Unit and Te Awakairangi Health Network are mourning the demise of a member and doctor who passed away unexpectedly this week. Dougal Thorburn died on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024.

The 43-year-old was a dedicated father, partner, and doctor, friend, and colleague. Dr. Thorburn was a well-known fitness enthusiast. He participated in multiple races including the New Zealand Mountain Running Championship title in Queenstown.

Dougal Thorburn was a graduate of the University of Otago and was a board member at the hospital community located in 22 Ngatitoa Street, Takapūwāhia, Porirua, and resided in Wellington, New Zealand.

Te Awakairangi Health Network: It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Dr Dougal Thorburn, a kind and intelligent man with an enormous heart for people. Dougal was a well-known GP across the Hutt Valley primary care community and for many years worked in some of our general practices and with partner organisations.

Dougal also did a stint as Clinical Director / Population Health Lead at Te Awakairangi Health Network and was a Board member from 2022 until earlier this year.

Known for his good humor, quirky style, and profound dedication to seeing the communities of Porirua and Wellington healthy and thriving, Dr Dougal will be sorely missed by all his friends and colleagues across Ora Toa.
