Heritage Grove Middle School student killed following vehicle crash near Route 59 and Riverwalk Court.
Gianna Lamb Death: Plainfield, Illinois, and Heritage Grove Middle School communities are mourning the tragic death of a middle school student who passed away in a car accident Wednesday. Police say 12-year-old Gianna Lamb died after she was hit by a vehicle while escaping from another crash on Illinois Route 59 in south suburbs.
The crashes happened around 8:30 p.m. near Route 59 and Riverwalk Court, local authorities said. According to Plainfield police, the first crash involved a Nissan Rogue hitting a Toyota Rav4 after the Nissan turned at the intersection without properly yielding to the Toyota. Inside the Nissan was a twelve-year-old girl passenger.
She was struck by a Ford Fusion that was traveling north on Route 59 as she got out of the vehicle and started to flee the scene. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the girl was brought to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital and then Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Following many hours of closure for an investigation, both highways have reopened, according to the police. Pastor John Ciesniewski learned that the three cars involved in the crashes were all driven by members of the local Community Christian Church during a StuCo Celebration Service.
He claimed that in the previous two years, there have been at least seven collisions at the crossroads, which is without a traffic light. Despite years of pressure from the church, the Illinois Department of Transportation has yet to install a traffic light. The Plainfield Police Department and Illinois State Police are still looking into the crashes.
Feel free to leave a message of condolences and prayers for the family and friends of the deceased in the comments section as it will go a long way for them during this difficult time.
