Gregory Dierkes Obituary, Elderly Vietnam veteran died after Saturday’s Iron River explosion
The identity of the man killed in an Iron River house explosion has been released.
City Police say Gregory Dierkes, 80, died Saturday when his home on West Cayuga Street exploded. Several other homes and vehicles in the area were damaged, as debris from the explosion was found three blocks away.
Dierkes’ family says the Vietnam veteran had just bought the home and had moved up from Florida. He had owned a cabin on Cable Lake years ago and wanted to return to the area.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
