HACKNEY STABBING UPDATE – A 15-year-old has been charged with murder after another boy the same age was stabbed to death in east London.
Pharrell Garcia was found with stab wounds in Stellman Close, Hackney, shortly after 4pm on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said. Emergency services tried to save him, but he died at the scene.
The boy who has been charged cannot be named for legal reasons. He has been remanded and is due to appear at Stratford Youth Court on Friday. The victim’s family continues to be supported by specialist officers.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway said Pharrell’s loved ones were “understandably heartbroken” at this “unimaginably difficult time”. He said: “I know the community will be searching for answers today and will be shocked and angry at this tragic loss of life.
“I want them to know that we will do everything in our power to provide those answers and bring those responsible to justice. “Our investigation continues at pace today with officers conducting house-to-house inquiries, reviewing hours of CCTV, and speaking to witnesses.”
Mr Conway said an increased police presence would remain in the area in the coming days. As forensic inquiries continue, a “significant proportion” of Stellman Close will remain cordoned off, likely for several days.
In the wake of this tragic incident, we extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this heart-wrenching loss. As they grapple with the indescribable pain of bidding farewell to their loved ones, we share in their sorrow and stand in solidarity during this time of profound grief.
