Hubert Gauthreaux Gretna Death – All 14 victims of Wednesday morning’s terror attack on Bourbon Street have been identified, either through family confirmation or verification by the local coroner.
The final victim identified was LaTasha Polk, 47, of New Orleans. Her family confirmed her death to *The Times-Picayune*. Polk had been celebrating New Year’s Eve in the French Quarter with her brother, Prentiss Polk, who remains missing. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support her teenage son.
According to reports, Edward Pettifer, 31, of England, was also among the deceased. He was the stepson of a former nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry. Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Dwight McKenna had not released Pettifer’s name on Friday due to his family’s wishes. The remaining victim, Polk, was initially described only as a Black woman on the coroner’s list.
Dr. McKenna noted that Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s body remains in custody at the request of federal investigators. Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas native, caused devastation in the French Quarter early on New Year’s Day, driving a rented Ford F-150 through a three-block section of Bourbon Street.
He was killed after engaging in a gunfight with law enforcement. Two New Orleans police officers and over three dozen others were injured in the attack.
A vigil ceremony was held Saturday night at a memorial on Bourbon Street, where flowers, crosses, stuffed animals, and candles have been placed near the site of the attack. GoFundMe has verified several fundraising pages to support victims’ families and survivors.
