Jane Lee (Burney) French Dead: Beloved member of The Bellows Falls died on August 31

Jane Lee (Burney) French, a cherished figure in Brattleboro, passed away on August 31, 2024, at Pine Heights Home, at the age of 89. Her life was a testament to devotion, community service, and a loving family.

Born on April 4, 1935, in Charlestown, NH, Jane was the daughter of Lawrence W. and Phoebe (Dawson) Burney. She grew up in Charlestown, where she graduated from Charlestown High School in 1953.

On September 27, 1953, Jane married Albert E. French of Cambridgeport, VT. The couple began their married life in Cambridgeport before relocating to Bellows Falls, where they established their home and made lasting memories.

Jane’s professional life was marked by diverse roles and a deep commitment to helping others. She worked as a seamstress at Mary Meyer Toy Company, a supervisor/compiler at H.A. Manning, and found her greatest fulfillment as a day care worker and family counselor at 5C Head Start.

Jane considered her work at Head Start to be the most rewarding, often recalling the children she helped and taking joy in their achievements and conversations whenever she encountered them in the community.

In addition, she dedicated her time as a volunteer program chair for the SHARE/SERVE Food Program in the 1990s, where she played a significant role in distributing food to those in need.

In her retirement, Jane and Albert enjoyed setting up at flea markets, where they relished the opportunity to meet new people and forge friendships. Jane’s warmth and genuine interest in others shone through in these interactions.

A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Bellows Falls for over 60 years, Jane made significant contributions to the church community. She served in various capacities, including Supervisor/Coordinator and Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. Her true passion lay in the church’s mission programs, where she tirelessly encouraged her congregation to embody the spirit of service, both locally and globally.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, and her siblings Gale and Spencer Burney, Janice Moore, Glenna Phelps, and Bonnie Mitten. She is survived by her children Gail Davis, Laurie Noyes, Cindy Cole (Ron), and Thomas (Hyon Suk – Ann). Her legacy includes eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Jane’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Bellows Falls on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Following the service, a private burial will be arranged for the family. Jane’s life was marked by her love for her family, dedication to her community, and unwavering faith, and she will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
