Tribute: I am so saddened and stunned to learn of Jay’s passing. I woke up this morning to messages and calls from my brother and two of my oldest friends letting me know. Most recently I saw Jay at the race track. Always with a smile always with a hug. But I knew Jay before that –in Richmond where we both lived, before either of us started traveling in the racing world — and then we even got the chance to work together at the track. He was so genuine, so upbeat and funny, and someone I could trust and rely on. Rest in peace friend Over the last two years, Jason Cottrell left an indelible mark on my kids – and Baton Rouge. The stories of our past were capped off with a most epic chapter. I am humbled and so incredibly grateful to have had him in our lives here, and for our unforgettable adventures in Florida. Jay Cottrell was already legendary in our house from all the bedtime stories. Now a legend, I am sure Uncle Jay is up there either fishing with my Dad – or hanging out with your mama Tire Technician/Mechanic at JDC Miller Motorsports

“It is not length of life, but depth of life.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson. And you my sweet friend, you lived life so deeply and to the absolute fullest. There are no words to convey how heartbroken I feel. I got the call that I didn’t want to hear… I am beyond sad and I’m so utterly shocked by the news.

You were the biggest most shameless flirt I’ve ever met! I’m gonna miss the heck out of that with you! You always knew how to put a huge smile on my face and get the biggest belly laughs out of me. You had that je ne sais quoi of making someone feel like they were the most important person in the room and that they had your undivided attention. You were one of the most animated storytellers I’ve ever met. And damnnn you had some good freakin stories about life buddy. You lived life fearlessly with a bold lions heart and a passion for going big or going home.

Heaven just got a little bit brighter Jason. I know my mom was soooo over the moon excited to see you again. She did looove you. Almost as much as I do. I’m gonna miss you so dang much Jay boo. I love you. Hug & kiss my momma for me. Until we meet again my friend…XO
