Kenneth Goff Lander WY Death – A devastating avalanche over the weekend in the Breccia Cliffs area of Togwotee Pass claimed the life of 36-year-old man

The victim has been identified as Kenneth Goff, was a well-respected outdoor expert and seasoned mountaineering instructor from Lander, Wyoming.

Goff, who worked as a nurse and had been teaching climbing and mountaineering courses at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) since 2017, was known for his passion for outdoor adventure and his commitment to safety. He also had over a decade of experience as a rock climbing instructor, mentoring countless students since October 2011.

The tragedy unfolded when a group of four skiers unintentionally triggered the avalanche. Goff was fully buried beneath the snow, while another skier sustained leg injuries after being partially buried. The other two members of the group escaped unharmed.

Rescue teams faced harsh weather and challenging terrain as they worked tirelessly to reach the skiers, taking nearly four hours to arrive at the scene. Sadly, despite their efforts, Goff could not be saved. The injured skier was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks inherent in backcountry activities, even for the most experienced adventurers. Goff’s legacy of outdoor education and his adventurous spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. Local authorities are urging skiers and mountaineers to take extreme caution, especially in areas prone to avalanches.
