Kerry Burt Waterloo IA Death, Former Iowa Representative has passed away

Kerry Burt Waterloo IA Death – Former Iowa Representative Kerry Burt of Waterloo has sadly passed away. He died on Monday 30th September 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

He was confirmed dead through a post that reads “Today, we remember and honor the life of Kerry Burt, a dedicated firefighter and beloved member of our community. A proud Waterloo native, Kerry made his mark as a standout defensive back at the University of Iowa under Hayden Fry.”

Kerry Burt emerged as a notable figure in Iowa’s political landscape when he successfully ran for the 21st District seat in the Iowa House of Representatives, winning the election in November 2008. He officially took office on January 12, 2009, bringing his background and experiences to the legislative arena.

However, his time in office quickly became overshadowed by significant controversies. In February 2009, Burt was arrested for driving under the influence, which raised concerns about his judgment and suitability for public service.

The situation escalated when, in 2010, he faced legal charges for allegedly tampering with school records to enroll his child in a district, using an inaccurate address to avoid higher tuition fees. These legal troubles ultimately led him to announce he would not seek re-election, marking a swift decline in his political career.

Before his foray into politics, Burt had a different kind of notoriety as a professional athlete; he played for the Maryland Commandos in the Arena Football League in 1989, showcasing his competitive spirit and commitment to sports. A graduate of Waterloo West High School, he had deep roots in Iowa, which likely influenced his political ambitions.
