Ladarius Hall, 15, critically injured after targeted shooting in Birmingham’s Jones Valley community

A teenager is in critical condition after sustaining injuries in what police are describing as a targeted shooting in the Jones Valley neighborhood of Birmingham.

The Birmingham Police Department reported that a 15-year-old boy was shot around 1:30 p.m. on Park Lawn Avenue SW.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the teen lying in the roadway, and he was subsequently transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred in proximity to Jones Valley K-8, but since Birmingham schools were not in session this week, the school was unaffected.

“It just emphasizes the audacity of the suspect,” stated Fitzgerald. “It’s another incident highlighting the need for investment in Connect Birmingham,” a new program enabling police access to residents’ home security cameras. “Given the expansive residential area, it could be a game changer,” added Fitzgerald. Expressing concern, he remarked, “It’s distressing.

We lost a 15-year-old just a week ago. We must prioritize the safety of our children. Violence doesn’t discriminate.”

Reflecting on the current situation, he said, “The juvenile has a fighting chance right now, and we’re thankful for that.”

Police suspect that the victim was shot by someone who then fled the scene in a car.

No suspects are currently in custody.
