Early Life and Education
Larry Eugene Clements was born in Malvern, Arkansas, and spent his formative years in Southern California. His religious journey began at the age of eleven when he was saved and later baptized by the Norwalk Missionary Baptist Church.
At seventeen, Larry felt a calling to ministry and pursued his education at the California Missionary Baptist Institute and Seminary after graduating from Norwalk High School in 1966. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Theology degrees in 1971 and 1975, respectively.
Later, in 1982, he completed his Doctor of Theology degree from the same institution. His thirst for knowledge and spiritual growth led him to enroll in a Doctor of Ministry program at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2001, culminating in his graduation in May 2007. In 1968, Larry married Pat Madden, and together they were blessed with five children: Darius, Julie, Mark, Timothy, and Deborah Sue. Each child has pursued their unique path, with Darius and Mark following in their father’s footsteps into full-time ministry, Julie becoming a public school teacher, Timothy serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Deborah Sue residing at home.
Larry’s pastoral journey spans over thirty-three years, during which he served in leadership roles in four churches. He began his pastoral career at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Arroyo Grande, California, for two years, followed by Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Hayward, California, for eight years.
Subsequently, he ministered at First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in South Gate, California, for four years, before moving to Pauline Baptist Church in Monticello, Arkansas, where he served for a remarkable nineteen years.
In June 2003, Larry took on the mantle of Editor in Chief of Publications for the Baptist Sunday School Committee and Bogard Press in Texarkana, Texas. He dedicated eleven years to serving the churches of the American Baptist Association in this capacity before resigning in June 2014.
Despite his significant contributions to editorial leadership, Larry felt called back to pastoral ministry. In June 2014, he returned to Pauline Baptist Church in Monticello, Arkansas, where he currently serves as Associate Pastor to Senior Adults, continuing his lifelong dedication to serving and nurturing the spiritual growth of his congregation.
