Liam Newman Taupo, NZ Death: iFLY Brisbane Indoor flight Instructor has died in Queensland skydiving accident

Liam Newman Taupo, NZ Death – A Taupo, New Zealand resident has been identified as the 25-year-old man who died in a horrific skydiving accident.

According to law enforcement, Liam Newman died on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in a landing-go-wrong collision close to Goondiwindi.

The fatal incident took place on the southern border of Queensland. On Tuesday, at eight in the morning, emergency personnel were sent to a remote region near Goondiwindi, in Tarawera. Since beginning the adventure sport in 2022, Liam has made over 600 jumps.

NZ’s Taupo was the birthplace of Liam Newman. He worked as the iFLY Brisbane Indoor Skydiving Flight Instructor. From North Lakes State College, he received his degree. The town of Scarborough, which is north of Brisbane, is in grief following the untimely passing of their cherished son, brother, teammate, and friend.

The man was an experienced skydiver from Scarborough, north of Brisbane, according to the Australian Parachute Federation (APF), which is conducting an investigation into the death.

The individual tried a group jump during an organized event for experienced skydivers, according to the APF. It said it thought the man’s parachute opened and worked properly, but he fell hard and sustained multiple serious injuries.

Four more skydivers made a safe landing. The individual received first aid, but the APF reports that he was not able to live. The person, whose identity has not yet been made public by police, grew up in the skydiving community, according to APF CEO Stephen Porter.

According to Mr. Porter, an AFP safety officer was en route to the area to carry out a thorough investigation aimed at identifying the reason behind the occurrence and enhancing safety protocols going forward.

Investigating is also the Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit. Superintendent Doug McDonald of Darling Downs Police called the situation “absolutely tragic.” He said, “These incidents are complex, and experts must conduct the investigations.”

We all adored him as a member of our team, and during this trying time, our thoughts are with his family. We are closing our Brisbane tunnel for the foreseeable future out of consideration for Liam and our staff.
