Libby Childers Paducah, KY, Death – With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Libby Susan Childers, age 68, on September 3, 2024.
Mrs. Childers, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, left this world at Charter Senior Living of Paducah, KY, where she spent her final days surrounded by the love and care of those close to her.
Libby led a fulfilling life, marked by dedication to her career and unwavering love for her family and friends. She was a retired librarian at McCracken County Library, where she spent years nurturing a passion for reading and knowledge in the community.
Before her time at the library, she served as an Instrument Technician at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Sequoyah Nuclear Plant near Chattanooga, TN.
Her career at TVA was a testament to her skill and commitment to her work, paving the way for many women in a field traditionally dominated by men. Libby was a devoted wife to Spencer Childers, with whom she shared 29 wonderful years of marriage until his passing.
Their relationship was a true partnership, built on love, respect, and shared passions. Together, they enjoyed many trips to the beach, where Libby found solace in the ocean’s vastness and the simple pleasures of walking along the shore.
Libby’s love for her extended family was boundless. She cherished the relationships she built over the years with her nieces and nephews, always offering them her guidance, support, and a listening ear.
Her brother, Michael Studdard, and his wife, Suzanne, along with her nephew David Whitten and his wife, Sherry, niece Kimberly Whitten, niece Sara Studdard and her husband, Cory York, and nephew Daniel Studdard and his wife, Erika, will forever remember her as a pillar of strength and kindness.
An avid reader, Libby found joy in the pages of books, where she could escape into different worlds and explore new ideas. She was also a dedicated sports fan, passionately cheering for the Auburn Tigers football team (War Eagle!) and more recently, the Murray State Racers baseball team. Her love for sports was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and her belief in the power of teamwork and perseverance.
Libby’s warmth, wisdom, and strength will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, as she touched many lives with her kindness, intelligence, and unwavering support.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, followed by a service at 1:00 pm at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 3745 Old US Highway 45 S, Paducah, KY 42003.
An inurnment, alongside her husband Spencer’s urn, will take place at a later date, where they will be laid to rest together, as they lived—side by side. Rest in peace, dear Libby. Your memory will be forever cherished, and your legacy will live on in the hearts of those you touched.
