Lillianna Cawthron Accident – Yesterday afternoon, Lillianna Cawthron, 17, of Londonderry, was involved in a fatal single-vehicle incident on I-93 southbound close to mile marker 14.
When New Hampshire State Troopers from Troop B barracks arrived on the scene at 2:47 p.m., they discovered that a gray 2008 Mercury Milan had swerved off the freeway and struck many trees. This information was released in a press release.
The Londonderry Fire Department’s emergency teams had to completely shut down the interstate during the incident in order to free Cawthron from the damaged vehicle.
After the teen was transported to Elliott Hospital in Manchester, where she eventually passed away from her injuries, the immediate area was limited to two travel lanes for approximately four hours while the authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
A number of departments responded to the crash, including the Londonderry Police Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, which helped with traffic management and on-site response.
The State Police are still investigating the accident and Cawthron’s tragic death, and they are asking anyone with information to contact Trooper Daniel Morton at (603) 223-4381 or via email at Daniel.A.Morton@DOS.NH.GOV.
The circumstances surrounding the collision that resulted in Cawthron’s death serve as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of traffic safety, and the investigation is still ongoing in an effort to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic conclusion.
In the meantime, the community of Londonderry is coming to terms with the loss of a young life taken far too soon, and more information about the investigation is expected to be released as it becomes available.
