Mamta Kafle Bhatt Washington DC Missing — On Wednesday, three weeks after Mamta Kafle Bhatt was reported missing, detectives went back to her house and installed police tape.
Mamta’s husband is now officially a person of interest in her disappearance, according to authorities.
Following her disappearance on July 31, the 28-year-old Manassas Park mother was listed as missing due to “involuntary circumstance”. WUSA9 was informed by Manassas Park Police that a search warrant was carried out at her residence on Wednesday night.
A few hours later, Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo addressed the media at the department’s first press conference following Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s disappearance. Lugo was the only official to speak, despite the presence of Manassas Park Mayor Janette Rishell, Councilmember Mike Carrera, and Del. Michelle Maldonado.
At the beginning of the news conference, the police chief expressed gratitude to the local and global communities for their outpouring of support for the missing woman.
“While I acknowledge and respect the public’s concerns for answers, I assure each of you that although these answers are limited by this continuing to be an active investigation and process this investigation remains a top priority for the police department,” Lugo stated.
Lugo went on to say that the police department has carried out ten search warrants and hundreds of interviews in connection with Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s disappearance.
Shortly after the press conference started, the police chief attempted to leave, but he eventually came back to the stage when reporters and members of the community started chanting, “That’s it?”
Lugo came back to the stage and stated, “Look, the search warrant is going to take another three to four hours to complete,” “When I get the information, I will provide that.”
When Mamta Kafle Bhatt vanished, WUSA9’s Matthew Torres questioned the police chief about the possibility of a person of interest.
Lugo declared, “He is a person of interest.”
“The husband?” Matthew Torres enquired.
“Yes,” Lugo responded. “He’s been a point of interest and everybody knows that.”
Next, Matthew Torres enquired as to whether Naresh Bhatt, Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s spouse, was assisting with the probe.
Lugo answered, “No, the husband isn’t cooperating.”
