Mark Butler NAVASOTA, TX Death; Navasota Police Officer died in Line of Duty crash

Sgt. Mark Butler Death – On January 15, a heart-wrenching incident claimed the life of 35-year-old Navasota Police Sergeant Mark Butler, who was assisting in a high-speed chase involving a wrong-way driver.

The pursuit began at around 3:15 p.m. when College Station Police pursued a black 2023 Jeep Wrangler driven by an unidentified woman.

The suspect dangerously exited Texas 6 at FM 2154, traveling southbound in the northbound lane, creating chaos and endangering countless lives.

As Sgt. Butler raced northbound on Texas 6 to intercept the suspect, her vehicle collided head-on with his 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe police cruiser. Despite being rushed to Grimes St. Joseph Hospital in Navasota, Sgt. Butler succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

A graduate of Navasota High School, Sgt. Butler was a dedicated officer committed to protecting his community. He leaves behind his grieving wife and young child, along with a legacy of courage and service.

The Texas Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Team is diligently investigating the incident to piece together the tragic sequence of events. Navasota mourns the loss of a local hero, honoring Sgt. Butler for his ultimate sacrifice.
