Mason Sheets Fulton MO Obituary – A juvenile has been detained following the discovery of a 17-year-old male, identified as Mason Sheets, who was found dead in a vehicle late Sunday night, the Fulton Police Department announced in a news release on Monday.
Sheets, a resident of Fulton, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to authorities.
Incident Details
Officers responded to a call about a disabled vehicle near South Business 54 and Commons Drive at approximately 11:51 p.m. Sunday night. Upon arrival, officers discovered Sheets in the vehicle, unresponsive and critically injured. Despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our officers started life-saving measures,” said Fulton Police Chief Bill Ladwig. “The Fulton Fire Department and Callaway County EMS also responded, but unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries.” Sheets’ death was attributed to multiple gunshot wounds.
Community Mourns the Loss
The tragic news reverberated across the community, particularly at Fulton Public Schools, where Mason Sheets was a high school student. On Monday, the district issued a heartfelt message to families, acknowledging the devastating loss and pledging support for those affected.
“It is with great sorrow that we inform you one of our high school students has passed away,” the statement read. “We ask that you keep the student’s family and friends in your thoughts during this extremely difficult time. This loss may raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our school community.”
The school district activated its Crisis Team to provide counseling and emotional support to students, staff, and families. Additional mental health professionals will be available in the coming days to help the community cope with the tragedy.
Juvenile Detained, Investigation Underway
Authorities detained a juvenile female who was present at the scene. Due to her age, police have not disclosed her identity or specified whether she is considered a suspect.
The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad has been activated to assist with the investigation. Currently, 20 investigators from six agencies are working to process a large volume of leads and witness accounts.
“Anytime something like this happens, it’s going to affect the whole community,” Chief Ladwig said. “I just don’t understand why people make some of the decisions they make.”
