Matthew Dickinson Palmyra NJ Death: Palmyra High School Student Athlete died following train accident

Matthew Dickinson Palmyra NJ Death – Palmyra High School student athlete, Matthew Dickinson has passed away. He died after being hit by a RiverLINE train on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

The tragic event happened at the Chestnut St trail crossing where he was pronounced dead by witnesses. He was probably walking to Legion Field, which is nearby, for a soccer match. The game was over. It was evident that the incident had disturbed both players and spectators.

For several hours, Palmyra police blocked off a portion of Broad Street while investigators worked. According to NJ Transit, the incident did not injure any of the 28 passengers or the train’s operator. Between Cinnaminson and Route 73, River LINE service is once again available, although with 30-minute delays in each direction.

Technically speaking, train strikes are not classified as “traffic deaths” yet are far too numerous in New Jersey. Trains call the victims “tresspassers” quite frequently. The 15-year-old student athlete who was the victim was revealed by Palmyra Borough on its Facebook page.

He was recognized as Matthew Dickinson by the soccer and wrestling teams at Palmyra High School in an interview with NBC10. He was praised by many as an excellent friend, teammate, and student. Concerns over safety on the trains that pass by numerous houses have been raised by neighbors.

Having them feel the love from the surrounding communities to offer them some sort of comfort and support in knowing that we stand behind them in their time of need, to give them strength to get through just the beginning of a lifetime of pain and sadness. My condolences to the family. My heart goes out to you.Colleen Perry
