Maurice Daniels Plattsburgh, NY, Death – Maurice Daniels, a former crossing officer at Stafford Middle School in Plattsburgh, New York, has passed away.
Every day, he wore a colossal smile and was consistently amiable towards all individuals. Daniels was charged with second-degree harassment in 2021 after the release of a video that purported to depict him striking a pupil.
Maurice Daniels was charged with harassment in the second degree, according to a press release issued by the city’s police department. Police reported that he continued to be on unpaid leave while awaiting the outcome of that proceeding.
“During the course of the investigation, more than 15 witnesses were interviewed, and additional video evidence was obtained of the events leading up to the incident,” according to the announcement. The video, which was initially obtained, appears to depict Daniels confronting a 12-year-old pupil on a pavement near the road before striking them.
A short time later, the superintendent and the school district both issued statements that acknowledged the incident and indicated that an active investigation was in progress. Parents in the vicinity responded to the video with a variety of emotions.
As the Press-Republican initially reported, on Tuesday, a number of parents and other community members assembled to demonstrate their backing for Daniels, who has nearly two decades of experience in the role.
