Membathisi Mdladlana Death: Former Labour Minister Died At Age 72

Membathisi Mdladlana Death: Membathisi Mdladlana, who served as the former Minister of Labour, passed away at the age of 72.

It has been confirmed by his family that he passed away on Friday morning at his home in Cape Town. His family stated that he died there. Mdladlana served as a member of Parliament (MP) for the African National Congress during the time that the country was experiencing its very first democratic administration in the year 1994.

After having served as a member of parliament for a period of four years, Mdladlana was appointed to the position of Labour Minister by the first President, Nelson Mandela, and then by the second President, Thabo Mbeki. He remained in this role until 2009.

Mdladlana is survived by seven children and an uncountable number of grandkids, according to Mayibuye Sokupa, who serves as the family’s spokesperson. “I won’t mention any illnesses; it was just old age, and there were some breathing difficulties here and there.”

In spite of the fact that he had not been sick, he passed away early this morning after eating his breakfast while watching television. For a brief period of time, he complained about his breathing, and that was the end of his illness, according to Sokupa. According to Sokupa, Mdladlana will be remembered as a trade unionist who campaigned for the rights of workers both during and after the apartheid era.

“He battled for the oppressed, and he campaigned for the improvement of living conditions for the working masses. During his time at SADTU (South African Democratic Teachers Union), he campaigned for the rights of educators. If I recall correctly, he has always been a unionist.

He has been a unionist since the beginning. After that, he went on to become the Minister of Labour, and at that time, he worked to ensure that both the employer and the employee were protected, as well as to establish really positive working connections.
