Mid-City Shooting Today – One person was dead and a suspect was in custody after a shooting during a robbery Friday morning at a small grocery store in Mid-City, police said. Two other suspects remained at large.
The shooting was reported shortly after 10 a.m. at a single-story strip mall near the intersection of Venice and Hauser boulevards.
An injured person was transported to a hospital in unknown condition. Whether that was the same person who later died was unclear. A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Descriptions of the at-large suspects were not available.
Video from AIR7 showed several police and fire department vehicles outside the Durango Produce and Meat Market. The parking lot was cordoned off with yellow tape, and a parked car’s windshield had been shattered, possibly by gunfire.
Saturn Street Elementary School, located just two blocks from the scene, was placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to the Los Angeles School Police Department.
