Osage County Boat Accident: Man and daughter died in boating incident on Gasconade River

Osage County Boat Accident – A tragic boating accident on the Gasconade River claimed the lives of a father and his young daughter Sunday evening, in a heartbreaking incident that has left the community in mourning.

The accident occurred near Pointers Creek in Osage County at approximately 7 p.m., as reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and confirmed by Osage County Sheriff Michael Bonham.

According to the official crash report, a 2002 Gatorboat, operated by 30-year-old Reven Newbound of Owensville, was traveling upstream when it struck a submerged root wad, causing the boat to veer off course and collide with a rock bluff.

The force of the impact was devastating, resulting in the deaths of Newbound and his 7-year-old daughter, whose name has not been released by authorities.

The boat was carrying a total of seven people at the time of the accident, including several children. The report indicates that all of the children were wearing life jackets, a safety measure that tragically could not prevent the loss of life.

However, none of the adults on board, including Newbound, were wearing life jackets at the time of the crash, raising concerns about boating safety practices on the river.

Among the survivors was 21-year-old Taylor McClure of Bland, Missouri, who sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by emergency responders. McClure’s condition is reported to be stable, and she has since been released from medical care. The other survivors were transported to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, where they received treatment for their injuries.
