Patrick Horton Salida, CO man found dead at Poncho’s Kitchen in Grand Canyon

Patrick Horton Salida, CO Death: A man has passed away in the Grand Canyon while on a non-commercial river trip down the Colorado River.

Grand Canyon National Park officials said they received a report at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday regarding a death at Poncho’s Kitchen, around river mile 137. When park rangers arrived, they discovered the man deceased. He has been recognized as 53-year-old Patrick Horton from Salida, Colorado.

Officials said he was on the tenth day of a non-commercial river expedition on the Colorado River when he was discovered dead by party members. The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office are looking into the cause of death.

According to law enforcement agencies, Patrick Horton died on 8, Sept, 2024. Family and friends have been left heartbroken following the unexpected discovery.

Horton was not declared missing, his body was found by a staff of the establishment. The unidentified individual called the police. Grand Cayon Parks released the following statements;

Grand Canyon National Park: News Release—Fatality along the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park, On Sept. 7 at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a fatality at Poncho’s Kitchen, near river mile 137 along the Colorado River.

Park rangers responded to the scene and found the victim, Patrick Horton, 59, of Salida, Colorado. Horton was on the 10th day of a non-commercial river trip along the Colorado River and was discovered deceased by members of his party. The National Park Service is investigating coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
