Paul Allgood Columbus, OH Death – In a tragic incident that unfolded on Saturday afternoon, a shooting in the University District has left one man dead.
The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Paul Allgood. The Columbus Division of Police responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the 1300 block of North High Street shortly before 2:40 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Allgood suffering from a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Allgood was pronounced dead at 4:24 p.m. The news has sent shockwaves through the community, especially given the timing of the shooting in relation to a significant event at Ohio State University.
At the time of the incident, the Ohio State Buckeyes were concluding a home football game against the Wisconsin Badgers, drawing a large crowd of fans. The excitement of the game abruptly turned into concern as groups of fans, including many families, unwittingly approached the crime scene while exiting the stadium.
Witnesses expressed alarm over the proximity of such violence to a celebratory event. “It is crazy, crazy to be at the OSU game, to see a shooting right on High Street; it’s scary… we live in scary times,” stated Khalilah and Kenneth Larue, alumni of Ohio State visiting from Atlanta.
Police have not yet released any details regarding a suspect or the events leading up to the shooting. Investigators are working diligently to gather information, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses.
