Paul Dono, 46, had been sleeping rough in a tent but was due to move into a permanent home when he was found dead in a Travelodge, an inquest heard

Paul Dono Death – Just before he was to be informed that he had found a permanent home, a guy who had been living on the streets was discovered dead in his hotel room. Paul Dono, who’d died in a Travelodge, had lived in a tent before.

A support worker who had come to bring the good news found his body. According to the inquest, the 46-year-old had struggled with drug and alcohol addictions since he was 12. ‘A sudden unexpected death including alcohol consumption’ was the description given to his passing.

The day following his check-in, Mr. Dono, who had been homeless, passed away at the Travelodge on Longton Road, Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent. Chloe Henshaw, his support worker, asked to be allowed into his room by the receptionist and later discovered his body.

The Manchester Evening News notes that on October 25, of last year, she went to offer the good news that she had found him a new place to live. At his worst, Mr. Dono would down three bottles of wine and whisky a day, according to the inquiry. On other days, he would buy heroin for up to £150 or drink sixteen cans of beer.

Despite his difficulties, he was well-liked and received assistance from many. Mr. Dono had experienced phases of abstinence throughout the years, but he continued to relapse. According to Stoke-on-TrentLive, he liked going to the gym, hanging out with his dogs, and spending time with his family when he was sober.

Mr. Dono battled “demons” and a “self-destructive” nature, and his tent in Wolstanton Marsh served as his makeshift home. Nevertheless, his remarkably “lovely” and “fabulous” nature stuck with them.

Born and raised in Milton, Mr. Dono battled alcoholism and visited A&E 22 times between May 2023 and October 2023. Pathologists’ and toxicologists’ studies state that while a number of illnesses, such as epilepsy, depression, left ventricular enlargement, acute pancreatic liver disease, and others, further worsened his health, they were not factors in his demise.

Alcohol use was a contributing factor in Mr. Dono’s death, according to assistant coroner Nicholas Walker. “On the evidence heard Paul Dono was on a really fast down spiral which started at the back end of 2022 and into 2023 and this story is very clear,” he said in expressing the findings. Paul made two attempts at suicide, which makes me wonder whether that was his intention, but the medical report indicates that it was not.

“Paul was barely one-quarter over the drink-drive limit,” he continued. This is a depressing tale of someone who can’t stop abusing drugs and alcohol. When he did, he reported feeling fantastic, but in the weeks leading up to his passing, he frequently visited the hospital, most of which were due to drinking.”

Walker concluded, saying, “I am quite satisfied that Paul’s cause of death was an unexpected, sudden death related to alcohol misuse.” He battled alcohol addiction for a considerable amount of time.”
