Richard C. Summers Obituary: Race enthusiast passed away on August 26, family mourns
About Richard C. Summers
He was born October 1, 1944, the son of Floyd and Wilma Bloomfield Summers. He went to Brazil High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1961, and was stationed in Europe. He served his country proudly in active duty through 1967.
On December 5, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Janice Kidwell Summers. Together they raised their family in Brazil. He retired from Great Dane as a supervisor, working there beginning in 1977.
He was a member of the Brazil Eagles Lodge and through the years he developed a passion for racing. He could be found in Putnamville Raceway on many hot summer days working as a mechanic with great skill.
He also went to Brownstown and made the yearly trip to Eldora, OH for the races there. If he couldn’t be at a race in person, he watched the sports on TV, especially when Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon were racing. He specialized in Late Model cars.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Summers; their children, Brenda Giacone (Jay) of Muncie, David Summers (Michele) of Gallatin, TN, and Tonya Trout (Chris) of Brazil; grandchildren, Josh Giacone (Taylor), Brittany Giacone, Cameron Trout (Sydney), Schafer Summers, Delaney Trout, and Ella Summers; great-grandchildren, Natalya Cork, Jack Giacone, Beau Richard Giacone, and Myla Trout; sisters Regina Tanner and Glenda Gail Head; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn Grayless, brothers Milton Summers and Hubert Summers; granddaughter Jessica Giacone.
Richard C. Summers Funeral Arrangement
A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Thursday at 7:00pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel with James Hyde officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donation are suggested for the Clay County Humane Society, PO Box 277, Brazil, IN. 47834.
