Richard Grace Spitfire Death – Pilot and Ultimate Warbirds Flights engineer Richard Grace has sadly passed away. He died on Tuesday 15th October 2024 after battling with illness surrounded by his beloved family.
He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post that reads “We are profoundly sad to announce that on the evening of October 15th 2024 Richard Grace lost his stoic battle with ongoing illness.”
Richard Grace’s affinity for aviation began long before he could even walk. Growing up surrounded by vintage aircraft, he was immersed in a world of aviation history and engineering marvels. The family Spitfire, an iconic symbol of British aviation, completed its first restoration flight in 1985, just before Richard celebrated his first birthday.
This early exposure ignited a lifelong passion that would shape his career and life. From a young age, Richard’s fascination with engineering and flight blossomed. He found the perfect outlet for his interests at Air Leasing LTD, where he has combined his love for flying with his engineering skills.
Over the years, he has had the privilege of piloting a diverse array of World War II aircraft, including legendary models like the Hawker Hurricane, Hawker Sea Fury, Yak 3, P-51 Mustang, and various marks of the Spitfire. Each flight not only deepens his connection to aviation history but also showcases the remarkable engineering behind these classic machines.
In addition to his impressive flying credentials, Richard is also a key member of the Trig Aerobatic Team. Performing breathtaking displays across Europe in two Pitts Specials, he has embraced the thrill of aerobatics while captivating audiences with skillful maneuvers. This role allows him to share his passion for aviation with others, inspiring a new generation of aviation enthusiasts.
Richard’s journey in aviation took a significant turn at the age of 20 when he rebuilt and flew his first aircraft.
