Robert Hokum Death: Ealing Blues Festival Visionary Founder & Director Has Died

Robert Hokum Death: Robert Hokum, also known as Robert Salmons, the visionary founder and long-time Director of the Ealing Blues Festival and the Ealing Club, has passed away. We are deeply saddened by his departure.

Yesterday, Robert passed away peacefully in his sleep, having fought a valiant battle with motor neurone disease (MND) since his diagnosis in late November 2023. His passing signifies the conclusion of an epoch for the music community in Ealing and beyond.

Robert was a genuine legend in the blues music community, dedicating a significant portion of his life to the celebration, promotion, and preservation of the rich heritage of blues in the United Kingdom.

Through his tireless efforts with the Ealing Blues Festival, he established a lively environment that allowed musicians and admirers to unite and revel in the excitement of live performances. His enthusiasm for music was contagious. The festival became one of the most iconic music events in the country under his stewardship, attracting performers and audiences from both near and far.

Every note he played and every event he organized were a testament to Robert’s talent and passion for the blues, as a musician himself. He was a cherished figure in the music community, recognized for his commitment to the preservation of the blues tradition and the cultivation of talent, as well as his sincerity and enthusiasm.

Robert’s passing has left an irreplaceable void, but his legacy will persist through the festival he established and the innumerable lives he impacted. We extend our most profound condolences to Robert’s family, friends, and the entire Ealing music community during this challenging period. All who knew and admired him will greatly mourn him, and his contributions will never be forgotten. Robert Hokum, may you rest in peace. Your music and spirit will endure indefinitely.
