Rosman High School Students Death – A tragic accident claimed the lives of two teenage boys from Rosman High School late last night.
The fatal incident occurred on Old Wagon Road near Presley Fields Road, a stretch of roadway known for its sharp curves and narrow lanes.
According to local authorities, the two teens were traveling southbound around a curve when their four-wheeler lost control, collided with a tree, and ejected both occupants from the vehicle. Despite the quick response of emergency services, the boys were pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of their families. It is also unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
A 911 call reporting the accident was made at 1:06 a.m. on Sunday morning, and emergency responders were dispatched immediately. However, due to the severity of the crash, the boys’ lives could not be saved.
The Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office has launched a full investigation into the accident. Early reports suggest that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, although the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.
Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough review of the scene, including examining the four-wheeler for any potential mechanical issues that may have contributed to the crash.
Four-wheelers, or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), are popular in rural areas like Transylvania County, where they are often used for both recreational activities and practical purposes, such as farm work. However, these vehicles can be dangerous, especially when driven at high speeds or on uneven terrain. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), ATVs were involved in over 500 fatalities in 2020 alone, with a significant portion of these accidents involving young riders under the age of 16.
In North Carolina, laws regarding ATV use require that riders under the age of 18 wear helmets and eye protection at all times, and riders under the age of 16 must be under direct supervision by an adult. It is not yet clear whether the victims were wearing helmets or if any adult was aware of their activities at the time of the crash.
