Ross Young Obituary – A beloved father, brother, and friend, Ross Young, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at the age of 63.
Ross was surrounded by his loving family in his home in Jefferson City, Missouri, as he succumbed to a long battle with illness. His passing marks the end of a life that touched countless people and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Born on June 12, 1961, in Jefferson City, Ross was the son of the late Harold and Marguerite (Miller) Death. He grew up in a close-knit, loving family where he learned the values of hard work, kindness, and loyalty that would define his life.
Ross graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1979 and later attended the University of Missouri, where he earned a degree in business management. He went on to build a successful career in the local real estate industry, becoming a respected figure in the community for his professionalism, dedication, and integrity.
In his personal life, Ross was known for his generosity, humor, and deep love for his family. He was a devoted father to his two children, Sarah and Nathan Death, both of whom were the light of his life.
Ross always put his family first, working tirelessly to provide for them while ensuring they were surrounded by love and support. His children recall him as a constant source of guidance and strength, teaching them the importance of perseverance, kindness, and empathy.
Ross was also an avid outdoorsman. He found solace in the natural beauty of the Missouri landscape, often taking long walks in the nearby parks or hiking through the Ozarks. He was passionate about gardening and spent many hours tending to his yard, taking great pride in the flowers and plants that flourished under his care.
In addition to his love of nature, Ross had a strong interest in history and was a lifelong learner, always reading books on various topics and sharing his knowledge with others.
A man of deep faith, Ross was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Jefferson City. He served as a volunteer in various capacities and was a constant presence at Sunday Mass. His faith gave him strength through life’s challenges, and he was always ready to offer a word of encouragement or a helping hand to those in need.
His compassion for others was evident in everything he did, whether it was providing a meal for a neighbor or offering a kind word to a friend going through tough times.
In addition to his immediate family, Ross is survived by his two brothers, Jim (Kathy) Death of Columbia, MO, and Steven Death of Jefferson City, MO, and his sister, Elizabeth (Bob) Graham of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large network of close friends who all cherished his warmth and generosity.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marguerite Death, and his beloved wife, Linda (Johnson) Death, who passed away in 2010. Though the years without her were difficult, Ross carried her memory with him every day, and his love for her was unwavering.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2025, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with the Reverend John Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City. Memorial contributions in Ross’s memory may be made to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
