Ryan Howard Manoakeesick, the suspect, was arrested on Sunday following the murders in three separate but related incidents in the town of Carman, southern Manitoba.

The first incident, according to police, involved a reported hit-and-run in which a woman’s body was discovered. The three small children were removed from the burning vehicle by the defendants and pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report that police received hours later.

Officers discovered another female’s body at a Carman residence after conducting an additional investigation.

Who was Ryan Howard Manoakeesick?
Ryan Howard Manoakeesick, 29, was a suspect who has been charged, according to Royal Canadian Mounted Police Inspector Tim Arseneault. The deceased include the suspect’s 30-year-old wife, their 6-year-old daughter, 4-year-old son, 2-month-old daughter, and the wife’s 17-year-old niece.

The five passed away on Sunday at various crime scenes in and around Carman, a town located 85 kilometers (53 miles) southwest of Winnipeg.

Police responded to a hit-and-run on Sunday morning and discovered the woman dead in a ditch. More than two hours later, and 70 kilometers (44 miles) to the north, officers responded to a report of a burning vehicle and discovered the children outside.

The front and back yards of the family’s small white bungalow in Carman were cordoned off by police tape, and forensic teams could be seen entering and exiting the property. The police cars were parked outside. Children’s toys and a bike were scattered across the back lawn.

‘Unimaginable Tragedy’:
The RCMP did not provide a motive for the homicides in three crime scenes near Carman. Insp. Tim Arsenault at a news conference on Monday afternoon, announced “We know today’s update will be difficult for many to hear.”

“And our thoughts continue to be with the families and friends who are dealing with this unimaginable tragedy. Our thoughts are also with the community of Carman who are mourning the loss of an entire family.”

According to Arsenault, autopsies were set for Monday and Tuesday.

“Until we have a clearer picture of what occurred and when we will not be able to provide any details,” Arsenault said. “Today, young, innocent lives were senselessly taken, and we are mourning along with all of Manitoba.”

Community mourns loss of five people:
The first-ever First Nations premier of Canada, Premier Wab Kinew, spoke at the press conference, said,

“You heard the officer say that an entire family’s been lost,” said Kinew, who doesn’t usually attend police news conferences. “This is a dark time in Manitoba… There is no context, there is no explanation, that can make this OK. This is pure darkness.”

“You think about a 2 ½ month old and it is impossible to imagine that there’s anything that could justify what took place.”

Manitoba’s leader, Cathy Merrick also expressed her sorrow over this tragic incident, saying,

“It’s not our way as a people, it’s not our way in our culture and our language, violence is something that we have learned as a people.”, she said.

Merrick, the grand chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, expressed his heartbreak over the deaths of a mother, a teenager, and three children.

She said, her voice full of emotion, “I have grandchildren and I was thinking about them as I was sitting here.” “And we have to prevent these things from happening to our families.

“..I’m sure the man loved his children. I’m sure that he’s sorry that he had to pull them out of the vehicle. But he (allegedly) did something wrong.”

According to Arsenault, the family wished to remain anonymous. On the other hand, the names appeared on a GoFundMe page that raised $5,000 in hopes of helping with burial costs.

Melvin Clearwater, Amanda’s father, also verified the tragedy on social media page, saying, “It is with great sorrow we want to announce the death of our daughter and our three grandchildren and our niece rest in piece,” he added.
