At approximately 4:15 p.m., deputies from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office responded to distressing reports of stolen vehicles from the parking lots of Ionia Walmart and Ionia Menards. Investigations revealed that a group of five individuals, believed to be from the Lansing area, purportedly pilfered a vehicle from another jurisdiction before arriving at Walmart.
There, they seized another vehicle before proceeding to Menards, where they absconded with yet another vehicle. Alerted to the unfolding events, law enforcement swiftly disseminated information to surrounding counties.
Shortly thereafter, deputies in Clinton County intercepted the stolen vehicles. However, attempts to halt the vehicles were met with defiance, igniting a high-speed pursuit spanning Clinton, Eaton, and Ionia Counties. According to the sheriff’s office, spike strips successfully stopped one of the vehicles, but the other—a 2020 Kia Forte—lost control while traveling northbound on Sunfield Highway near Bippley Road, ultimately colliding with a tree.
