Shooting on I-75 – Authorities in Laurel County, Kentucky, are on high alert following a mass shooting incident that occurred along Interstate 75 (I-75).
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch from Woodbine, Kentucky, is considered armed and dangerous.
According to law enforcement, Couch, a former military member, has made explicit and alarming threats, stating that he plans to “kill a lot of people today.”
The terrifying events unfolded near Exit 49/KY-909 on I-75, where an unidentified individual began firing shots from an elevated position, targeting vehicles as they traveled along the highway. Witnesses report hearing rapid gunfire and seeing multiple vehicles swerving in panic as bullets shattered windshields.
At least five people have been confirmed as victims of the shooting. Although the identities of the injured have not been disclosed, several individuals are reported to have been shot while inside their vehicles.
Emergency medical responders quickly arrived on the scene, tending to those injured, but the suspect managed to flee before authorities could apprehend him.
The public is now on high alert as law enforcement officials launch a massive manhunt to locate Couch, who is believed to be carrying an AR-15 rifle and approximately 2,000 rounds of ammunition.
His extensive preparation and prior military experience have only escalated the seriousness of the situation. Authorities have emphasized that Couch is dangerous and should not be approached under any circumstances.
Joseph A. Couch is described as a 5’10” white male, weighing approximately 154 pounds. He is considered a “Person of Interest” in the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement agencies, including local police, state troopers, and federal authorities, are actively searching for him, and additional resources have been deployed to assist in the manhunt.
