New Lisbon WI Death: Sterling Walsh, Mauston High School teacher died after accident in La Crosse

Sterling Walsh Death Sauk City WI:- A 29-year-old man has died following an accident that happened this past weekend. The victim has been identified as Sterling Walsh.

According to reports, Sterling Walsh of New Lisbon formerly of Sauk City passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from injuries sustained in the accident. He was pronounced dead at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, following a tragic accident, surrounded by family.

About Sterling Walsh
He was born on October 21, 1994. Sterling graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 2013, where he excelled in tennis, earning letters all four years and serving as the #1 singles player and Team Captain.

He attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, graduating with a BA in Education. During a summer job at the Dells Army Ducks, he met Katie Nelson, whom he married on October 2, 2021.

Sterling and Katie settled in New Lisbon, where he worked as a math teacher at Mauston High School from 2019. His positive outlook and competitive nature made him an effective Advisor for the School Math Team, leading them to win the South-Central Conference Math Competition. He also coached the girls’ tennis team and assisted with the boys’ tennis team. Sterling was beloved by students, colleagues, friends, and family.

Survived by and preceded in death
He will be missed by his beloved wife, Katie; his dad and mom, Dean and Joanne; siblings, Tiffany (Andy) Haffemann, Dustin (Michelle) Walsh and Natalie (Andrew) Lovell; nieces and nephews, Evelyn, Estelle and Cole Haffemann and Caroline and Graham Walsh; maternal grandmother, Marie Vertein; paternal step-grandfather, Jerry Alt; Katie’s parents, Bill and Jodi Nelson; sister-in-law, Lindsey (James) Lierman and nieces, Sophia and Claire. He is further survived by other relatives and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jack Walsh; paternal grandmother, Verna Alt; and maternal grandfather, Allen Vertein.

Funeral service
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac. A visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, June 23 at the church and one hour before the service. Interment will be held in the Prairie du Sac Cemetery.
