Tim Flanagan Rockland ME Death – A beloved teacher and coach at Wiscasset High School passed away on December 6, 2024, in the warmth of his family’s residence in Wiscasset.
Tim has left behind an enduring legacy of compassion, altruism, and dedication to the development of young lives, as a man of exceptional dedication to education, athletics, and community.
About Tim Flanagan
Tim was born in Rockland, Maine, on October 17, 1946, as one of nine children to James and Eileen Flanagan. His upbringing in a close-knit family instilled in him the values of generosity and diligent work at a young age.
Tim, a 1964 graduate of Rockland High School, was conscripted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and subsequently received his education at the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School in West Point. He subsequently continued his education at Gorham State Teachers College (now the University of Southern Maine), where he met his wife, Judy.
Tim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy, and their children, Darin, Donald, and Doreen, as well as their spouses and grandchildren. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he cherished the time he spent with them. Tim also maintained close relationships with his extended family, who were a critical component of his life.
Coaching and Education as a Career
Tim began his teaching career at Westbrook High School in 1971 and later relocated to Wiscasset High School in 1977. Tim’s mentorship and instruction have had an immense influence on the lives of numerous students for more than four decades.
He was addressed as “Mr. Flanagan” in the classroom and provided academic instruction, as well as essential life teachings in work ethic, character, and preparation.
Tim’s coaching abilities were unparalleled. In 1991, he earned a place in the chronicles of school history by leading the Wiscasset boys’ basketball team to its inaugural state championship. He was a coach for a diverse array of sports, including cross-country, golf, tennis, and baseball.
He also served as the coach for the math team, which achieved numerous state championships. Tim’s unwavering dedication to athletics and his ability to inspire his athletes left an indelible impression on the community and Wiscasset High School.
Tim’s lifelong passion for golf was ignited during his boyhood at Megunticook Golf Club, where his father was the chief professional. Tim’s accomplishments were numerous, including the Maine Junior Championship (1964) and the Maine State Father/Son Championship (2007). He was a club champion at Rockland Golf Club and other locations on numerous occasions. In addition to his accomplishments, Tim viewed golf as a means of promoting values such as integrity, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
