William Yost Altadena, CA Death – A fiery, multi-vehicle crash caused by a wrong-way driver on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Pasadena has left two people dead and three others hospitalized.

The crash, which occurred around 8:10 a.m. Sunday near North San Rafael Avenue, involved four vehicles, one of which erupted into flames, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Authorities reported that the tragic series of events began when a vehicle entered the freeway’s westbound lanes via the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp and began traveling in the wrong direction.

The resulting collision involved a white sedan, a silver minivan, and two other vehicles. Paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes, responding to the intense blaze and multiple injuries.

The Pasadena Fire Department confirmed two fatalities at the scene. One of the victims has been identified as 31-year-old William Yost. Three other individuals sustained injuries severe enough to require immediate transport to a local trauma center. Their identities and medical conditions have not been disclosed.

The crash caused substantial traffic delays in the area, particularly on the nearby Colorado Street Bridge. A Sigalert was issued shortly after the incident, leading to the closure of the westbound freeway at Orange Grove Boulevard until early afternoon. The freeway reopened to traffic at 1:08 p.m.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the driver entering the freeway in the wrong direction. Additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
