Dan Tack Columbia MD Obituary – Daniel Marvin Tack, left this world far too soon on December 24, 2024, at the age of 19.
Daniel, or “Dan” as he was known to his family and friends, was a young man who touched the lives of everyone he met with his loving heart, humble spirit, and unwavering commitment to serving others.
His sudden departure leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to resonate with all who were blessed to know him.
Dan was born to Heather Tack and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family that included his siblings Naomi, Abigail (Jake) Lisenbee, Edward, Julia, Lily, Elaine, and Samson, as well as his cherished grandparents Elaine Tack, Dan Fortney, and Marlene Fortney.
His family was the center of his world, and he always made time to care for them, to support them, and to offer his strength when it was needed. He was a devoted son, an attentive brother, and a compassionate friend.
In every aspect of his life, Dan embodied the essence of service—putting others’ needs before his own, offering comfort, and loving without conditions. From a young age, Dan was passionate about his faith. He loved the Lord with all his heart, and it was clear to all who knew him that his relationship with Jesus Christ was at the core of who he was.
Dan was an active member of his church, participating in the Christian Service Brigade and engaging deeply in youth and young adult ministries. He eagerly gave of his time and talents, always seeking ways to serve others and grow in his spiritual walk.
His love for God and his desire to share that love with others was evident in everything he did, from volunteering to coach youth basketball teams to leading conversations about faith and spirituality. As a member of Elev8 basketball, Dan’s servant’s heart shone brightly.
Dan’s personality was one that filled a room with warmth and energy. He had the gift of conversation, and when you spoke to him, you knew you were truly heard. He listened with intention, asked thoughtful questions, and made those around him feel valued. His ability to connect with others on a deep, personal level made him a beloved figure among his friends, family, and colleagues.
He had an innate sense of empathy, and when someone was struggling, he was often the first to offer a kind word or a comforting embrace. His strong arms provided a sense of safety, and his ability to make others feel at peace was a gift that will be sorely missed.
In the words of Dan’s family: “Dan, son, brother, friend, cousin, nephew, grandson, even father figure. We miss you so much. You are such a big presence, your personality fills a room. You are an amazing conversationalist, when you start a real conversation you listen, you ask good questions, you are really in that conversation.
You are so generous, with your time, your money, your skills, your strength, your energy, your friendship. You always look for ways to serve your mom, to care for your little brother, to support your friends and coworkers.
You are so good at comforting, those strong arms made us feel safe and you were often the first to go to someone who was struggling.” As his family mourns, they find peace in the thought that Dan is now wrapped in the arms of his Father, experiencing eternal peace and joy.
“Oh, and you have Dave’s sense for good food (philly tacos, towering breakfast sandwiches, etc.). When you finished making breakfast for everyone you’d devise the most amazing meal for yourself. And Dan, you love the Lord. You loved the spiritual conversations.
You spent your time and money bringing others to God. You struggled, and we won’t know how deep those struggles were. But Jesus knew. Now you are wrapped in the arms of your Father and someday we’ll join you, where those struggles are gone and our tears are wiped away.” A memorial service will be held for Daniel Marvin Tack on Saturday, December 28th at 2:00 pm at Columbia Presbyterian Church, located at 10001 MD-108, Columbia, MD 21044. All are welcome to attend in person or to join the service via livestream.
